Comments & ID Thoughts

I have never seen a spider like this in my house. I live in Northern California and I just want to make sure that this is not a poisonous spider.

Thanks,
Tony

Hi, welcome to Spider ID. 🙂 This is either a Widow (Latrodectus sp.) or a False Widow (Steatoda sp.), the legs look perhaps a bit longer and more robust than is typical of Steatoda grossa (False Widow) … individuals do vary though. Some of the other details I normally look for are not visible in this image. Is it dead? If so you could just check underneath to see if there are any red marks, if there are it is a Black Widow (Latrodectus sp.)
