Picture of unidentified spider

Comments & ID Thoughts

Not sure what kind of spider this is. We have many banana spiders and orb spiders. We live in the country.

Hi, I can’t tell which species it is from the photo. It is an orbweaver spider (banana spiders are a type of orbweaver too), possibly in the genus Araneus. They are calm, gentle spiders. If you look through pictures of Araneus and Neoscona genus spiders you may recognize her pattern and colors. The colors of the banded stripes on her legs are a clue too. Some species are hairy looking, others aren’t? If you can post a closer clear photo of her back we should be able to tell you more.
