Yes, and she’s a beauty. She’s a cross orbweaver, Araneus diadematus.
Almost right 🙂 Araneus marmoreus. Check out this photo: http://www.naturefg.com/pages/c-animals/araneus%20marmoreus.htm
I have found that some stock photographers don’t correctly identify their photos. I avoid using their species labels. I think this one was wrong.
You’re absolutely right. Thanks for keeping me humble. I didn’t see that damn cross. My Dick Jones book also clearly shows it is the diadematus. Lesson learned!
thank you but I will go with marmoreus
That was a great idea. STock photos can miss the mark quite often even with pros.
Right on the mark and she sure does have the nicest marking on her body.
close but I’ll go with Marmoreus. Thanks
Araneus marmoreus, female
thanks for reply
Except, I was wrong. A.diadematus, a.marmoreus and a.quadratus can look similar, and all three can show a cross. Sometimes the folium (leaf shape) is more prominent and sometimes white markings are missing. For some reason, when I looked at this picture, I didn’t see a.diadematus.
