Picture of unidentified spider

Comments & ID Thoughts

I live in East TN and this spider crawled across my foot while sitting on my porch. Noticed when taking picture with flash it's brown with a dark brown stripe down the center of it's back. Also a single dot reflected at the end of the stripe. Anyone know what kind this is?

This is one of the Fishing Spiders, Pisaurina mira, in the Nursery Web Weaver family Pisauridae. The reflective dot is one of the eyes reflecting the flash from your camera. The Pisauridae and a few other familes of spiders that hunt their prey rather than build webs to catch it have a reflective membrane in the eyes called the tapetum that helps to reflect light and improve night vision, much like we see with cats and dogs at night.
