Hello, this is a female marbled orbweaver, Araneus marmorous.
Thank you! Does she have an egg sack?
I was wondering about that. I don’t think orbweavers move their egg sacks with them, but they also aren’t usually on the ground. I don’t know if it gets cold enough in southern states to decrease the flying insect population. That could lead orbweavers to scavenge on the ground. It’s drier this time of year too, which seems to lead them to look for water on the ground. The adult orbweavers here in New Hampshire are dead from the cold. Maybe yours just had her silk get stuck to a leaf, like toilet paper on a shoe.
