I have no idea what this is, it’s beautiful and is quite large between 3”-4”. It’s been hanging around the front of my warehouse for a couple of days, today it started making a web. I would like to know what it is and if it is poisonous and if I should move it into the field with trees. I’m afraid it may get killed by passers by

Hi, yes, big black, yellow, and silver spiders are beautiful! Your spider is Argiope trifasciata, an orbweaver type of spider. If you think she’s in danger, yes, please move her. She would like to be up high near another tall object to spread a big web between the two high places. This species seems to prefer human structures with right angles (like the warehouse) more than trees. Basically, any place you would stretch a banner. All spiders have some venom for paralyzing prey, this one isn’t considered dangerous. She’ll only bite you defensively, if at all. A situation like that… Read more »
