I think she’s a nursery web spider, Pisaurina mira. Probably the same one. This is a female and they generally don’t hang out with other spiders. It usually ends in someone getting eaten. Please be kind to us gentle-folk at SpiderID and in the future escort spiders back to the Great Outdoors ALIVE. We don’t want to hear about the hardships of trying to find the bodies of your victims. Most spiders won’t bite you unless you deserve it. Even then, very rarely will anything will happen to you that will require a co-pay at a doctor’s office.

Thanks, I understand about the startle reflex, it’s natural. The disturbing thing is when someone is a safe distance from a spider or other animal and they still deliberately make a show of smashing it to death. I have vivid childhood memories of people doing that to all kinds of crestures. I never felt safe around those persons again. That’s a reason I do this as a volunteer. Spread peace.
