This was submitted by a friend asking if anyone could identify it. Looked pretty rare and on ground cover in December in Massachusetts up in the Blue Hills.

I agree with ZebraDuck, Araneus marmorous, a marbled orbweaver. She has a shrunken abdomen from depositing her eggs and/or hunger. It’s difficult to catch flying insects in a web after the killing frost.
