Comments & ID Thoughts

Alderton Gloucestershire - small village surrounded by countryside. Spider found inside - we have ALOT of these come out at night on our fence in garden but this one was in our daughters playroom and I’m concerned it may be a false widow. Advice please.

Hi, this is a Noble False Widow, Steatoda nobilis. You can reduce the number of spiders you find in your home by sealing cracks around floors, doors, windows, foundation etc., vacuum everywhere and empty the canister outside. They’re unlikely to bite except in self defense and are not considered to be of medical significance like their cousins the Black Widows (Latrodectus spp.). Everyone’s immune system is different though.
