These are in several areas of my house. What is it and how do I get rid of them?
That’s a really big Pholcoid spider. A cellar spider. They aren’t dangerous at all. They don’t bite people or pets ever. You can catch them with a clear bowl or cup and a sheet of stiff paper and just put them outdoors if they bother you. They’ll eat insects for you if you let them continue to live in your house.
Yes, this looks like a Long-bodied Cellar Spider, Pholcus phalangioides. It would take a lot of provoking to get one to bite, and as far as spider bites go these are of little to no concern (everyone’s immune system is different though). As long as they stay out of sight this is one I don’t mind having around as I feel they are no threat to my family and they successfully prey on less desirable things including substantially bigger insects and spiders.
