Enoplognatha Ovata (Candy Striped Spider)
I found this spider on a strawberry from a dish of berries. I live in Michigan but the berries are from Mexico. This little fella survived for around a week refrigerated! Tough little guy.

Hi, I think so. I did some research and I can’t find a better match than Enoplognatha Ovata. It is tricky because spiders, like this species, are showing up in new places and the ranges aren’t definite. Spiders, such as this one, also tend to be very variable in their colors and markings from individual to individual. This one found a great plant -strawberries- for camouflage. We humans unknowingly eat lots of insects and spiders. The U.S. Government has a chart for allowable numbers of insects parts per measure in processed foods. You don’t want to hear what someone who worked for a ketchup company told me about how they harvest the tomatoes. I used to pick wild blueberries from the fields in Maine. If you avoided the ones that might have insects in them you wouldn’t get to eat the blueberries. Hey- you’re the one with spider fruit – just because they’re called candy striped spiders, it doesn’t make them candy. 😉
