Comments & ID Thoughts

Someone on Reddit reckons it looks like an orb weaving spider of some sort, but no idea what species. It bit me while I was mowing, and my skin swelled up in a tiny area around the bite for about an hour, after which point it was fine. I suspect I drove into its web on the mower while passing through some foliage.

It does look like an orbweaver. An image recognition app strongly suggests genus Dysdera. That is possible, there are several Dysdera species in Australia and the orange color and large chelacerae are more like Dysdera than like the orb weaver genera. An orb weaver is usually found in a web, mobile hunting spiders aren’t. Other site users will also help with the identification.
