It's a black spider with a mostly red or orange abdomen. Unlike the black widow, the entire abdomen on the top side is reddish. It doesn't have a unique shape of any sort. It was a really fast spider and about the size of a dime. We recently killed two black widows.

looks to me like a (rather skinny) male Phiddipus johnsoni/red-backed jumper. nothing to worry about; if he’s still around, he’ll be doing more good than harm around your house, and jumping spiders are beautiful and fascinating to observe!
