Comments & ID Thoughts

Hello my name is Lacey, I live in Salem,Oregon. The weather has been fairly chilly and the last couple of nights have produced high wind storms. Not sure if any if that matters as to what kind of spider this could be. This particular sprider is beginning to make a web up next to the back porch light above my back door. Its freaking huge! What kind could this be? Ive ruled out the three main scary spiders : black widow, brown recluse, and the hobo spider. Any comments would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Your spider is one of the Araneus species, part of the Orb Weaver family Araneidae.

Yes, it looks like a low-pigmented Araneus diadematus. The orbweavers tend to build webs near porch lights. The lights attract nocturnal insects.
