Hello I am new to the forum and have little knowledge on spiders and have taken in a furrow spider found in school for my own amusement. I have made sure to research it’s kind and have provided it with food and other necessities. I found it like that a few days ago and I’m not sure if it’s dead ir just molting. Is there anything i can do to help the poor little guy? Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Hi, if I’m seeing it right this looks like a mature female so shouldn’t be molting. She looks like she’s either dead or dying. For the most part orb-weavers do not make ideal pets as they need a lot of space to thrive and the air indoors may be too dry. She might be dehydrated – I would try offering a wet cotton ball or scrap of paper towel for her to drink from if you haven’t tried that already. Otherwise it just might be old age.
If I’m not seeing it right, and she is molting … into an adult female … then I’d make sure the enclosure is well ventilated but humid.
