Can anyone identify this spider. It was/is in my closet between boxes of shoes. Tried to hit it with a shoe, but it was too fast and retreated behind boxes!!

Yes, as you said before, it looks like a dark fishing spider, Dolomedes tenebrosus. They don’t just eat fish, they hunt insects. There is something in the photo, at the top of the red thing, that could be insect related. I would be happy if you didn’t try to hit it with a shoe again. 🙂 It is there because there is something to eat there and whatever it is eating is something you probably don’t want in your closet.
