Comments & ID Thoughts
Found this spider on our deck in South Salem, OR this evening around 6:30 pm. Body is orange with brown banded legs. I havent seen this pattern on its back before. It wasn't moving. Too cold, I think. Any idea what species it is?

Nevermind, found it. Think it’s a cross orb spider. Never seen one this late in the year. And they are usually brown body . Interesting to see it in orange. Unfortunately, I think it’s dead now or just very, very cold.
You’re correct, that is the Garden Cross Orb Weaver, Araneus diadematus in the family Araneidae. They can very a fair bit in color, especially as they get towards the end of their adult lives, sometimes, becoming quite pale, orange or even quite dark.
Thank you
