Please help with this ID. My wife was bit 3 times and her arm is swelling with some sharp pain. Urgent care doctor could not identify the spider or determine any treatment. We wonder if it could be a brown recluse which is one of the few poisonous spiders in the Western US but can not clearly identify the violin shake expected on its back.
Hi, welcome to Spider ID. I’m sorry to hear about your situation. Do you still have the spider? Turn it over and look at the ventral side, is there a red or orange mark there? Your spider looks like it may be a dark variation of a Brown Widow (Latrodectus geometrus). If you still have it and want to submit another image of the ventral we can also compare it to a Western Black Widow (L. hesperus).
