Comments & ID Thoughts

I was working and the neighbour to job was cleaning underneath outside plastic storage. They found two spiders and put them in a jar to show their children before releasing them away from the house. My initial thoughts on one of them is a false widow the other larger one that appeared slightly hairy I haven't got any ideas. Bristol, UK.

Hi, I agree with your guess and your other spider looks like a Black Lace-weaver, Amaurobius ferox.

LGD

One of the left is Steatoda grossa. That’s two very fine looking specimens they’ve found, both very common here around homes in damp dark areas.
