My wife was bitten by something in bed a few days ago which required a visit to A & E for painfull swelling and anti biotics. Could it have been this spider I found in the bedroom today?

Hi, your spider looks to be a male giant house spider, Ertigna species. I really doubt it would be responsiblefor any significant injury. I have yet to provoke one of these to bite, but may compare to an ant sting or mild bee sting. Impossible to predict outcomes of venomous bites.
Thanks BugmanDan, my wife seems to be allergic to any kind of insect bite. I will relocate it.
This is a False Wolf Spider, Zoropsis sp..
Thanks ItsBitsy. I am beginning to think so too.
