Comments & ID Thoughts

Looks like a black widow but this spider is brown and has zigzagging design in back. Hourglass is on underside and is black. Legs are striped brown and lighter brown/yellowish color. Fast web maker. Immediately began creating web when placed in jar. Found in between folded towels in basement. Location: Aurora, CO.

This is Steatoda triangulosa, the Triangulate Cobweb Spider. The genus Steatoda is also known as the False Widows, since they are round, shiny, and spin cobwebs. False Widows are helpful since they kill and eat Black Widows.
