Comments & ID Thoughts
I don't know much about spiders, I just happened to see this one while hiking, and after 40 years in this area, have never seen one before. It was very fast, and running across this granite rock, so the picture is not as sharp as I would like. I'm just looking for a guess, I don't expect accuracy to 100%. This was in the Mojave Desert, "Poison Canyon", between Ridgecrest and Trona, Southern California.

I should also have noted that the body was about 3/4-inch long, at a guess.
Hi. This is not a true spider, these are called harvestman, just a different order of arachnid.

Thank you! I am a mineralogist, so I know the rocks, not the “bugs”.
Someone in California told us that there are lots of harvestmen out this time of year. There’s some that look like purple plastic with black and orange legs, they look really fake. I started with plants…then there were spiders on the plants and one thing leads to another..
