Thank you for helping with the cleanup! Cleaning the wetlands along a local water system has been an important personal project for me for 20 years. I take out litter, illegally dumped trash, and invasive species of plants. It should say on cigarette packs and ads, “Cigarette butts contain PLASTIC filters that can kill animals that ingest them!”

Hi. this looks to be a six spotted fishing spider, Dolomedes triton species. One of the nursery web spiders. Yes, they are pretty and quite harmless. These are the aquatic feeders, sit at a bank with a leg or two in the water. they can ‘feel’ small marine life going by, dive and catch small fish,tadpoles,etc. Spooked, they can dive into the water to avoid predators like birs, and can stay submerged longer than your patience will hold.
