Found on newly unwrapped semi-wrapped garden furniture in garden in St Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands. Unsure where garden furniture was imported from at present. Could have dropped from tree or climbed up from lawn . Colour of spider matches exactly the colour of furniture.

I’ve never seen a spider like this. Living on a small island I’m thinking it may have come in with imported goods. Does anyone know it?
Can anyone help identify this spider? He’s in a jar for now but I feel I need to let him go. Thing is I don’t know if he’s indigenous to Guernsey,
Hi, thank you for asking! It looks like a Dysdera species. I’m not sure and ranges can be tricky. Since you live on a island you probably shouldn’t release anything if you don’t know what it is. That has been devastating in past human history. When I’m not doing this I’m working to restore native habitat where I live and removing invasive species. My neighbor let me prune back (some of) her invasive trees and shrubs today! I’ve been trying to achieve that for twenty years! Thanks TangledWeb for your comments. I’ve made a larger enclosed habitat for the spider and plan to contact our Entomology Department tomorrow to draw on local experience. This would have to happen over Easter holidays when folks go away. I’ll post any outcome here. Cheers: Good luck with your projects too. We have an invasive foreign blue bell which was introduced to the island some years ago.
