Hi, this is a Wolf Spider (Lycosidae), looks like Tigrosa georgicola. 🙂
Hmm ok? I’m from the southwest (colorado) and I’m guessing they are different colors depending on region? The wolf spiders back home have more brown. Had we been in the desert, I would have guessed it was a baby tarantula it was pretty big. Thanks for your help tho, greatly appreciated.
Color and size aren’t deciding factors so much for determining the family (Lycosidae/Wolf Spider). They come in many different colors/patterns, and sizes, some have hair, some don’t. The placement of the eyes is a more reliable feature. The first time I saw one like this in person my mind initially went to “omg it’s a baby tarantula” too even though we don’t have tarantulas in the northeast US (aside from pets). The closest species to this you’d be likely to come across in Colorado is Tigrosa grandis: https://bugguide.net/node/view/990842/bgimage
Awesome. Thank you so much for your help!
