I have no clue what type it is. They spin webs near the ceiling in porches. The webs can get really, really big. I'd like to take some pictures of their webs, too.
That said, the underside looks like a red heart with yellow spots. This picture is of a dead or nearly dead spider on its back.
If we don't clear them out regularly, they literally overtake the house. It is pretty amazing. We live on a piece of land in rural Minas Gerais (Brazil)

Size: They’re pretty big. I’ll have to measure one, but the body — not including legs — is an inch long or more — maybe up to 1.5 or 2 inches — depending on the spider. And with legs included, up to about 3 inches long, from what I can tell.
