Comments & ID Thoughts
I first started seeing these in the garage, but I have since occasionally seen them in the basement. They are shy and tend to run into hiding quickly. They are always near the ground or in recesses or corners. I have never seen more than one of them in a given area. The closest I've ever seen them together is about 7 - 8 feet distance apart. They are large for a house spider and look very elegant.

Their webs are very chaotic and don’t appear to follow any sort of logic or pattern.
Hi, welcome to Spider ID. 🙂 This is a False Widow, most likely Steatoda grossa though I’d probably need to see the other side to be sure.

Thanks, I will try to get another from behind. There are two in my basement right now. Should I leave them be? Are they dangerous? Will they spread all over the house if left alone?
I added another picture, it’s a bit blurry. Let me know if you need a better one. Frankly as an arachnophobe it’s hard for me to get this close…
