Some crab spiders have the ability to change colors to camouflage to the environment around them.

What location was it found, was it really in Shipley?

LGD

It’s a very uncommon spider especially that far north, mostly found on the south coast and common in mainland Europe.
Th British Spider Recording scheme would probably be very pleased to recieve your record if you’d like to register and send it in 🙂

Their range map for the species can be seen here http://srs.britishspiders.org.uk/portal.php/p/Summary/s/Thomisus+onustus

Does seem a good fit (it can only really be either Thomisus onustus or Misumena vatia) but the location is an anomaly… there are apparently no UK records that far north for Thomisus onustus.
