This guy is no longer a threat, I let him go outside, but the odd thing to me was he moved towards my foot instead of away when I blocked its path. Does anyone have any insight as to what species of spider this one is?

Wolf spider, someone should be able to give you a more specific answer still. I often block the path of spiders with my phone to take their photos. It seems to confuse them. They continue walking until they realize it is a solid object. Some take an offensive pose of lifting up their front legs, others go sideways. Their vision is mostly tuned to movement and light/dark.
