Comments & ID Thoughts

What is this spider? It either gets around well or I have more than one. I'm in a fairly large metropolitan area in New Mexico. It's springtime. I've seen this guy in the bathroom, kitchen, and this is the wall my sliding glass door shares from my bedroom. It faces east. The photo was taken at 8:45 PM MDT. I would like to know what it is, is it poisonous, is it dangerous to cats? Where does it come from? What does it eat? What does it do? What good and/or bad is it? Thank you.

They might bite in self-defense if handled roughly. The venom isn’t potent to mammals. They are ambush hunters instead of using web traps. Their hunting method is to camouflage themselves in a spot that insects will visit. Holding the front legs out-like they want a hug- they hold still. Some can change colors to match the environment. When the prey shows… Read more »

Thank you for your information. If you look closely you will see that is is outdoors, actually on our Rosemary (herb) bushes. I have never seen one indoors. It also sometimes makes a kind of ‘stem’ down from it’s body, so that it looks like a flower. It seems to be able to catch quite big insects such as bees, flies or wasps. Looking at other photos, it appears to be very similar to the Golden Orbgarden spider, although it has more marking on it’s legs.

OOPs, sorry! I can’t get used to using your web site yet. I seem to have answered in the wrong discussion thread. I will try to find my thread.

No problem, clicking your username brings you to your conversations and photos. This site has some features that need to be updated, I’m still figuring out how some things on it work. I answered you in one of your other posts.
