Hi, welcome to Spider ID. 🙂 This is a Wolf Spider, Tigrosa helluo.
Should I be worried that I found one in my basement or are they some what harmless? I know some spider bites vary per person.
Right, they’re not considered to be of medical significance … but everyone is different. You can safely reduce the number of spiders you see in your home by sealing cracks around floors, doors, windows, foundation etc. They’re not really an indoor species but perhaps they’d do OK in a basement that had a dirt floor. If you had a lot of them I’d be more concerned about whatever it was they were eating down there. Just one or so every once in a while may just be them wandering in by mistake.
Thankyou!
