Hi, welcome to Spider ID. 🙂 It looks like a Vagrant Spider to me (Uliodon sp.).
Thank you for your input – that’s what I thought. I’m having trouble convincing people of that – everyone else thinks its a Wolf spider. I think my cat was bitten by one of these and it’s making him sick. There isn’t much information about Vagrant Spiders in New Zealand, nor their bite information other than joint pain. Do you know of any other resources that may have information on this type of arachnid?
Definitely not a Wolf Spider (Lycosidae). One of the species had a few more references for it, that might be an indication that it’s more common and most likely the same species as your spider. Unfortunately the… Read more »
OK thank you so much. I had the vet treat my cat as if it we knew for sure it was a spider bite – and from what I could find, the bite from a Vagrant spider is similar to a bee sting and could cause joint pain in a human. So for a 3kg cat it could have a more significant effect. That said, the vet agreed and treated him accordingly, and this morning my cat is almost back to his normal self, despite not eating. We’re getting there – thank you again for your efforts!
Glad to hear your kitty is getting better, I hope he’s back to 100% soon!
Thank you! 😀
