Comments & ID Thoughts

Pretty big spider. Body is as large as a spoon. Was taken around lake lure North Carolina. The biggest spiders I was aware of in this area is the Carolina wolf spider, but this doesn’t look like any that I’ve seen. Any help identifying would be great! Thanks!

This is the Dark Fishing Spider, Dolomedes tenebrosus, in the Nurseryweb Weaver family Pisauridae. They are similar to the larger Wolf Spiders in their habits and prey, but often found more closely associated with water (streams, ponds, etc.).
