This spider was crawling on my couch this afternoon. I have never seen one like it before. Can anyone tell me what it is, if it bites, and if it's poisonous. The older I get the more I seem to be allergic to.

This is an eastern parson spider, Herpyllus ecclesiasticus. They are not dangerous. They bite if mishandled; however, they’re not aggressive. They run away if they can. More detailed information can be found here.
