Picture of unidentified spider

Comments & ID Thoughts

So I've been house sitting for my aunt and uncle for a few days now. Their house is right by the river, and they have a fish pond nearby. There are tons of moths and insects around the place. The picture I took is of a freaky spider I found outside, in the back doorway. Between me and it is a sliding glass door (thank god). It's not so much the spider that scares me, but the reacurring spiders that keep building webs there every night in under 3 hours, while I am gone. It's only been 2 spiders in a row, but this one is significantly more scary looking than the last one. I felt the impulsive urge to make an account on here to ask about what people thought. Both the kind of spider this is, and maybe advice for how to get spiders to stop building webs right outside the door. I don't want to walk face first into one again.

This looks like a furrow orbweaver, Larinioides cornutus. Not dangerous. The worst thing about them is running into the webs as you have discovered. One way to get them to move is to keep destroying the webs.
