Can anyone identify this spider for me?
It’s a species of Jumping Spider. The colors are fantastic! We’ll work on a more specific answer for you. We have few photos of spiders from Montana, I’m wondering if the state has relatively few spiders.
Lived in Montana most of my life. Have had black widows in garage and yard, barn spiders hanging on house and little brown spiders inside. I’ve always picked them up and put them outside. Picked this one up with toilet paper to put outside. Didn’t trust himAnd didn’t realize how beautiful he was till I took his picture and enlarged it. Couldn’t find a jumping spider picture that looked like this one… Similar but not the same
I like looking at my spider and insect photos later in the day of photography to see how much more interesting the bugs look in detail – if the photos aren’t a blurry mess. This may be Phidippus boei, which has white around the abdomen or Phidippus adumbratus, which can vary. I used Google Lens, Bugguide.net, whatsthatbug.com, and of course our own site. I open it up to our other volunteers…
