Trichonephila clavipes! She was big and majestic. We saw her in her web in the dark woods around 5:00 PM. She grabbed a big fly and wrapped it so fast I didn't quite see it. She then let the wrapped insect hang by a strand of web below her. She was difficult to photograph in dim light because camera flash reflected off of her too brightly. I wasn't expecting to see her in a drab wooded area.

Neat! And thanks for the taxonomic update: I didn’t know the genus had been revised to Trichonephila.
