Comments & ID Thoughts
Please ID. This is the same spider as the lone spider I submitted a picture of earlier this evening. 3 photos total. One in a web and one not in a web one board over. Just a closer view. YUCK!! It’s huge!

When and how do I find out if someone has identified this spider? I am very interested in finding out what it is. I’m thinking a Wolf spider
Hi, it might be Anahita punctulata, a Southeastern Wandering Spider. I’m not certain, I haven’t identified one before. Wolf Spiders can’t climb like that, so they are ruled out. Fishing Spiders can, but they have longer thinner legs. Fishing Spiders don’t make webs except Nursery webs to protect hatchlings. I honestly found this likely species by clicking on Georgia in red type. That brings up the common soider species and our site’s confirmed sightings for the state. Our site moderator will inform you if my identification of it isn’t correct.
Ok, thank you for that. I wasn’t aware wolf spiders couldn’t climb like other spiders. I kept think of the fishing spider, but we are NOT spider walking distance from water. Very interesting. This site is pretty cool! Thank you!
You’re welcome and thank you for the compliment. This is fun, we’re more relaxed about individual communication style than most citizen science websites. Speaking of…. I have never measured anything by “spider walking distance.” 😉
