Picture of unidentified spider

Comments & ID Thoughts

Found this dead on my driveway. We live next to woods. The spider’s whole body span is about 2.2 cm long. The body itself is about 0.6 cm long. It is jet black with faint brown stripes on its legs. It has red spots down its back and white stripes as well. Underneath it has a red hourglass. Honestly not sure if it’s a red, brown, or black widow spider.

Just from what I have seen on this site, I think it is a false widow of some kind. Check out the pictures of those and see what you think.

You’re close, right family, Theridiidae. This is a real Widow in genus Latrodectus, not sure of which species. None of the False Widows in USA have red markings that I know of. Other volunteers are better at narrowing it down to species level than I am…

Ok just joining in on the conversation. New to the cool site.
