Comments & ID Thoughts

I was in skull valley Utah and saw this white back spider. The bottom had black spots. Curious what it is. Have never seen anything like it.

The closest species that I can think of is Argiope trifasciata. Sometimes they lack the black and yellow markings. This one may be ill, possibly infested with parasitic wasp larvae. Her abdominal shape looks a little bit too big. Even if she was gravid with eggs of her own this seems a bit too stretched out.
