I was thinking possibly a wolf spider? It was definitely larger than a half dollar but smaller than the palm of my hand... not sure but too close to my pillows for comfort! Upstairs bedroom. I threw a shoe at him, missed, then lost him.

Hi, welcome to Spider ID. 🙂 I don’t think I can see this well enough. Wolf Spiders (Lycosidae) are not very good climbers, it’s an unlikely thing to see on a wall unless the surface is rough enough for one to hold on to. Just guessing, did it look like this?

Hmm… the shape of the body seems to match. The spider I saw was very black though, it didn’t even seem to have any markings, just a very dark black color. Hopefully that helps.
Yeah, I’ve had the species I linked to above turn up in my home a few times and they look black indoors in person, it isn’t until you see them magnified that all the brown stripes are easy to see. Here is a another common one that might appear similar:
