Comments & ID Thoughts

I am no longer surprised by the “new friends” my youngest boy brings into the house. He had this pretty lady crawling all over him and wasn’t in the least bit afraid. My oldest daughter was leading them down to the field to find a good place to release her but my other 6 year old took advantage of a moment of distraction and smashed her with a book. Poor Cecil cried for an hour. I’m not sure what species she was exactly but I think it’s safe to say she was some kind of Orb weaver. Cecil said he found her in her web under the propane tank.

Looks like a shamrock orb weaver to me.
What a sweet photo! Looks like he’s pretty good at handling these “new friends”, he even has his other hand underneath incase the spider loses it’s balance 🙂

Yes she looks like Araneus trifolium. That happened to me many times when I was a kid. I would find an interesting animal and another kid would smash it. It’s a form of bullying. So that was something that led me to increasingly be a protector of animals and bullied people. That’s the good motivation that can come out of this experience for Cecil. Please tell him that I (Carrie) am sorry about what happened to the spider.

Wow! I’ve known cats like him. Keep him away from the reruns of shows of guys looking for dangerous animals. I’m like you and him. If someone says “There’s an alligator!” I try to get closer. I much rather have adventurous zest than fear. I brought home lots of animals. My parents let me rehab some small ones, which was pretty cool of them. They just adopted a cat and trained it to go on camping trips with them. I can’t comment on my little brother, he might read this and have hurt feelings. ;(
