Body about 9 mm long. It clung to one of the screens on the outside of the house. The wires of the screen are 1.7 mm apart.

This is an Opilione arachnid with red parasitic mites. Opiliones are a different branch of Arachnida than spiders are. A big visible difference is that spiders have two body segments and Opiliones have one. These aren’t at all dangerous, they don’t have venom or fangs.
Thanks much. My knowledge of spiders is very small and I couldn’t find anything in the insect books I have. With that name in hand, I can easily look further.
