Steatoda grossa-False Black Widow

ItsyBitsy

Hi, welcome to Spider ID. 🙂 I agree this looks like a False Widow (Steatoda) though I would not determine species from this image. Comparing distribution maps it would seem Steatoda bipunctata would be the most likely but I wouldn’t rule out either of the other from this. Filed to genus.

The patterns on the abdomen are different but because this the image is small and the spider appears dark I don’t want to assume there isn’t a pattern there. S. grossa would be the one to mostl likely appear all black. The legs may also appear a little longer on that species which may be the case here…

Is your location data filled out properly? I’m looking at Ireland, but I see you also have London listed … ?

Haha … OK, location is only for where the spider was found. 🙂 Updated.
