Hi, this is a banded garden spider, Argiope trifasciata.
Is it normal for them to get that big?
I think so, I haven’t seen one in person, but the Argiope spp. spiders are usually described to us as HUGE. This is a female, they have more growth molts than the males. The males are normal sized spiders.
Yes. The females are large spiders. They are much larger than the usual orbweavers except for the golden silk orbweavers in the genus Trichonephila.
