I took the photo with a good lens that is good for close ups. In real life this spider is a bit smaller than it looks like on the photo. I also don't know the type of plant it sits on.

This is an Orbweaver in family Aranidae. Might be genus Araneus. I haven’t seen this one before, she’s quite ptretty, so is the plant. I’ll use the World Spider Catalog to try to match her to a species.
That didn’t work, there aren’t many Orbweaver species in New Zealand. I had the same result with other sites. Google Lens image identification came up with Araniella cucurbitina. Physically I can see why it would go tothis species. It may be a possibility. Orbweaver colors vary within a species. Itsy Bitsy: I can’t find this species in our Spiders section in the menu. So, I’m putting this one back out to everyone else- Arienella cucurbitina?
