it’s a male or penultimate male black widow, either Latrodectus variolus or mactans
it looked like the one on my patio with the hourglass on its belly. Does the brown widow also have the red hourglass? I am in California
The Brown Widows, Latrodectus geometricus, have an orange-red hourglass than looks a little bit wider. The markings on top of the Brown Widow are more different from Black Widows than the one on the underside. California has both types.
