Comments & ID Thoughts
Found this jewel crawling out from under some old composite deck boards I have stored under my back deck. I initially ran to get my gun because I thought it was a ground hog. In all seriousness, what kind of monster is this? I live in upper East Tennessee. New construction home on previous pasture land.

Hi, welcome to Spider ID. 🙂 This is a Fishing Spider, likely Dolomedes tenebrosus. I’m just placing to genus though because it’s wet and maybe looks a little different when dry.
Thanks ItsyBitsy…It was a big one! I told my wife that I thought it might have been a fishing spider, but I had never seen one this big and sprawled out. The ones I have seen before have been more elongated….thanks so much!
