I think this is a female yellow garden spider. Females will only mate after their final molt. So if you see one there should be several males hanging around looking to mate as usually there is a high male to mature female ratio. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argiope_bruennichi This picture is of a female who looks to be gravid. There should be a male around or the corpse of a male. Because the males here are the “plugging” type, the same male will hang around after mating if it does not get eaten. Your link is interesting, I didn’t know that Argiope bruennichi has been found in a couple of U.S states. I’m not sure if she is A. bruennichi or A. trifasciata.
