I'm not sure but it could possibly be a mouse spider or funnelweb. I found it in broad daylight wandering through some grass. What is it?

Hi, welcome to Spider ID. 🙂 This looks like a Cork-lid Trapdoor Spider (Ummidia sp.).
Oh nice! I think you you’re right. Thank you! So trapdoor spiders have shiny carapaces? I learned something new!
You’re welcome, nice find. Yes, there are a lot of species that have shiny carapaces. There are 18 species of Missulena (Mouse Spiders, not to be confused with Scotophaeus blackwalli which shares the common name “Mouse Spider”) and their range is limited to Australia with the exception one species in Chile, so you’re unlikely to come across one of those in Texas.
